MOVILIZATION
is a network of cities from Europe and Latin America. MOVILIZATION
focuses on non motorized transport, traffic education, safe routes to
schools and the role of transport in the process of social cohesion in
urban environment. Participating cities are Barranquilla, Florianopolis,
Leon (Nicaragua), Rio de Janeiro, Stuttgart and Utrecht among others.
Main goal of MOVILIZATION is is to improve living conditions of urban populations by improving access to work, education, social and health services. Transport as well as education, drinking water and housing is an essential human right and has therefore to be distributed more evenly among the city populations.
The latest publications of MOVILIZATION are two videos about safe cycling to school programs in the Netherlands and Florianopolis Brazil. The publications show how in different cities safe cycle to school programs try to start with young traffic users to educate and protect young people in their daily life from traffic. The change from traffic as a danger to the right for mobility and education includes to evaluate also parent and adult behavior in the direct school environment. Changing adults attitude is therefore a part of the safe to school programs as often adults are part of the problem.
